In a staggering turn of events within the horse racing world, Quinceanera, the first surviving foal of the celebrated mare Winx, has been retired on veterinary advice, having never raced a day in her life. This decision comes as a disappointment to many who had high hopes for the filly following her historic sale for a record $10 million at the Inglis Sales in 2024. The filly was procured by Woppitt Bloodstock, owned by Australian Debbie Kepitis, after a fierce bidding war against contenders from the United States, Japan, and Europe.

Woppitt Bloodstock took to social media to announce the difficult decision to retire Quinceanera, explaining that it was made “following veterinary advice and in consultation with trainer Chris Waller”. They expressed that even though this outcome is disappointing for all involved, it is ultimately in the best interest of the horse as she prepares to transition into a broodmare – a role that involves breeding rather than racing.
The Legacy of Winx
Winx herself is a legendary figure in horse racing history, having retired in 2019 as the world’s highest-rated turf horse. With an incredible unbeaten streak that spanned four years, she secured 33 consecutive victories, including an astonishing 25 Group 1 titles, and earned over $26 million in prize money during her celebrated career.
Challenges Faced by Winx’s Offspring
Before Quinceanera, Winx experienced the loss of her first foal, born from I Am Invincible, during birth. In addition, Winx has a third foal, a colt by the prominent sire Snitzel, which had generated significant excitement for a high-profile auction at Easter. However, this young colt was withdrawn from the auction due to injuries sustained in a paddock accident, adding to the challenges faced by Winx’s lineage.
