Capitals Secure Cole Hutson with Entry-Level Contract
The Washington Capitals have made a significant move by signing their highly regarded defenseman, Cole Hutson, to a three-year entry-level contract worth $975,000. This announcement came on Sunday, marking a pivotal moment for the 19-year-old player as he gears up for a potential debut in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Hutson, selected by the Capitals in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft, has shown remarkable talent during his tenure at Boston University, leading all defensemen in college hockey with an impressive tally of 80 points, comprising 24 goals and 56 assists over 74 games in the past two seasons.
The rising star made history last year by becoming the first defenseman to top the scoring charts at the World Juniors, accumulating 11 points in just seven games and playing a crucial role in securing a gold medal for Team USA.
The Capitals recently underwent significant changes as they traded long-time franchise defenseman John Carlson, opening up opportunities for promising young talents like Hutson to take center stage in the upcoming games. The team’s next matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th, where Hutson may make his much-anticipated NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators.
