Ernesto Valverde has officially announced his decision to leave Athletic Club at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. This revelation was shared by the manager in a video posted on the club’s social media platforms, marking another significant moment in his tenure with the team.

Valverde’s Tenure with Athletic Club

This will mark the end of Valverde’s third stint at the helm of Athletic Club. The 62-year-old tactician from Cáceres is set to conclude his leadership after overseeing the final ten matches of the LaLiga season. Notably, he will achieve a milestone of 500 matches in charge of the team, as he currently stands at 494 games managed.

Valverde’s Statement on His Departure

In his statement, Valverde expressed, “Next season I won’t be Athletic’s coach. It’s a decision I’ve thought about for a long time, discussed with the Club, and I wanted to share it with you.” He emphasized the importance of the remaining matches in the season, stating, “At the same time, I want to highlight that we still have 10 important league games left, starting this Sunday against Betis. 10 matches in which we want to achieve our goals, where there’s a lot at stake, where we’ll give everything, and undoubtedly, if we all stick together, we can achieve it, no question.”
