Newcastle Defender Kieran Trippier to Depart at Season’s End
Newcastle United has officially announced that their former captain, Kieran Trippier, will be leaving the club when his contract concludes at the end of the current season. Trippier, who joined Newcastle in January 2022 while the team was mired in the relegation zone of the Premier League, played an instrumental role in their climb up the league standings.
Over the course of his time with Newcastle, Trippier has made a significant impact, appearing in 157 matches and contributing to the club achieving two Champions League qualifications as well as clinching their first domestic trophy in 70 years. The 35-year-old defender expressed his heartfelt sentiments about leaving the club, stating, “The time has come to leave this amazing club after four and a half years. This is where I’ve felt most at home. It’s emotional, and I’m really going to miss it.”
In his farewell remarks, Trippier extended his gratitude to the supporters, acknowledging their unwavering backing during both challenging and triumphant times: “I want to say a massive thank you to the supporters for all the support through the good and the bad times. You’ve always supported me, always stood by me.” Throughout his stint at the club, Trippier has captained Newcastle on multiple occasions and notably became the first Magpies player to lead the England national team since Michael Owen in 2005.
