Liverpool Express Interest in Brighton’s Van Hecke

Liverpool Football Club has recently shown interest in acquiring Jan Paul van Hecke, a defender from Brighton & Hove Albion, according to reports from Dutch media on Saturday. Van Hecke, who has been seeking a move from Brighton since the previous summer, reportedly had his request denied by the club at that time.

As his contract is set to expire in 2027 and he has declined to negotiate an extension, many anticipate that Van Hecke will leave Brighton this summer. Renowned outlet Voetbal International states that under the management of Arne Slot, Liverpool views the 25-year-old defender as a perfect fit for their defensive lineup.

Sources cited by Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof indicate that negotiations have already taken place between Liverpool and Brighton, and that Van Hecke has been in talks with the Merseyside club for a significant period.

Notably, the expected renewal of Ibrahima Konaté’s contract does not dampen Liverpool’s enthusiasm for Van Hecke, who is set to join a roster of center-backs that includes Virgil van Dijk, Konaté, Joe Gomez, and the currently injured Giovanni Leoni.

Jan Paul van Hecke transitioned to Brighton from NAC Breda in the Netherlands back in 2020, in a deal worth €2 million. Since beginning his career on the English South coast, he has amassed a total of 126 appearances in various competitions.
