Aaron Rodgers Joins the Pittsburgh Steelers on a One-Year Deal

In a significant move that has captured the attention of the NFL community, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year contract, reportedly worth up to $25 million. This agreement, which was confirmed by multiple sources over the weekend, positions Rodgers as a key player for the Steelers heading into the 2026 season.

Rodgers’ base salary will range between $22 million and $23 million, with the remaining amount contingent on various performance incentives. At 42 years old, this marks Rodgers’ 22nd season in the league and his second with the Pittsburgh team, following a season in which he led the Steelers to an impressive 10-7 record and a divisional title in the AFC North, although they faced a swift exit from the playoffs—losing to the Houston Texans with a score of 30-6 in the first round.

Reflecting on his performance during the 2025 season, Rodgers recorded a career-low 3,322 passing yards along with 24 touchdowns over at least ten games. Looking ahead, he is set to reunite with head coach Mike McCarthy, who has recently taken the reins after the Steelers parted ways with longtime coach Mike Tomlin, who had dedicated 19 years to the franchise. McCarthy and Rodgers share a remarkable history from their days together with the Green Bay Packers, where they celebrated a Super Bowl XLV victory in 2011.

Rodgers joins a Steelers roster that has grown increasingly competitive, featuring recent draft picks like Drew Allar from Penn State and Will Howard from Ohio State, alongside the established quarterback Mason Rudolph. The influx of talent in the quarterback room raises questions about the team’s strategic direction as they aim for consecutive division titles, a feat they last accomplished in the 2016-2017 seasons.

A notable figure in NFL history, Rodgers has secured five All-Pro selections and is honored as a member of the Hall of Fame All-2010s team. He is currently fifth on the all-time passing yards list, with 66,274 yards, trailing behind only his former teammate Brett Favre. To ascend to third place in all-time touchdowns, Rodgers requires just 13 more touchdown passes to surpass Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

The Steelers will start the 2026 season with a home game against the Atlanta Falcons on September 13th, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating season with Rodgers at the helm.
