SAUDI ARABIA’S ABDULHAMID TO JOIN CAMP IN USA AFTER PASSPORT THEFT DELAY
In a recent development for Saudi Arabia’s national football team, defender Saud Abdulhamid is set to join the team’s training camp in the United States after successfully resolving a passport issue that had previously delayed his travel plans. The 26-year-old player, who currently plays on loan for Ligue 1 side Lens from AS Roma, initially planned to start preparations for the upcoming World Cup during a camp in Riyadh that was scheduled to begin on Monday.
Abdulhamid’s travel was affected when his passport was stolen in Amsterdam during a break-in while he was attending his wedding ceremony with family. Despite this setback, local media sources have reported that he has now obtained a replacement passport and will meet up with coach Georgios Donis’s preliminary squad of 30 players in New York.
The player expressed gratitude towards Saudi authorities for their assistance in replacing his stolen passport, sharing a message on the social media platform X: “Let’s go to the World Cup.” Abdulhamid’s positive outlook reflects his enthusiasm as he prepares for the international tournament.
As part of their preparations, the Saudi Arabian team has already commenced a series of training camps in New York and Texas, where they are scheduled to engage in friendly matches against opposing teams, including Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and Senegal. The team’s Group H campaign kicks off on June 15th in Miami, where they will face Uruguay. Following that, they are set to encounter Spain in Atlanta on June 21st and Cape Verde in Houston on June 26th.
