Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s leading tennis player and last year’s finalist, displayed her resilience by overcoming a challenging match against France’s Elsa Jacquemot. The encounter, held on Thursday at the prestigious French Open, ended with Sabalenka securing a straight-set victory of 7-5, 6-2, and advancing to the third round of the tournament.
Despite her position as the top seed, Sabalenka faced a formidable opponent in Jacquemot, who thrilled the home crowd with her impressive shots and tenacious play. Sabalenka acknowledged the difficulty of the match, stating, “That was a very tough opponent. Tricky match. I’m happy that I closed it in straight sets.” She added, “She played really incredible tennis and forced me to step in and play on another level. I am happy I could handle it and win.”
