BOLOGNA ANNOUNCES TEDESCO AS NEW HEAD COACH FOLLOWING ITALIANO DEPARTURE
Bologna FC has officially appointed Domenico Tedesco as the new head coach, succeeding Vincenzo Italiano, who departed from the club last week. The announcement was made on Tuesday, marking a significant shift in the club’s leadership as Tedesco takes on the role of first team technical director.
Tedesco has signed a contract that spans two years, with the possibility of an additional year depending on performance. The 40-year-old coach, who holds dual citizenship in Italy and Germany, enjoyed a brief stint at Turkish club Fenerbahce prior to his appointment, having taken over from renowned manager Jose Mourinho. His tenure there, however, was short-lived, lasting less than one season.
Before his time in Turkey, Tedesco made his mark in several notable European clubs, including Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow, and RB Leipzig. During his time with RB Leipzig, he achieved notable success, winning the prestigious German Cup in 2022. Furthermore, Tedesco also served as the head coach for the Belgian national team for two years, showcasing his expansive coaching repertoire.
Originating from Italy, his name translates to “German” in Italian, but he was raised in Germany, moving there at the tender age of two. As Bologna prepares for the upcoming season, they will finish the previous season in eighth place, indicating that Tedesco is set to oversee a team that aims to enhance its competitive standing in Serie A.
The Italian coaching landscape is likely to experience a significant reshuffling this summer, with Bologna joining Napoli, AC Milan, and Lazio in the search for new managerial staff. There is also speculation regarding Atalanta and Fiorentina potentially making coaching changes, making this an exciting yet uncertain time for Serie A clubs.
