FIFA Cancels Mispriced World Cup Tickets
FIFA has recently announced the cancellation of World Cup tickets that approximately 60 fans acquired mistakenly without charge due to a glitch on their website. The governing body indicated that these fans would be required to pay the full ticket price after having been initially allocated tickets at no cost due to a processing error during checkout.
On Wednesday, FIFA informed the affected customers that their tickets, which were offered at “zero USD” due to a previous payment issue, would remain reserved while prompting them to complete the payment at the correct amount. In their communication on social media platform X, FIFA expressed regret for the error and any inconvenience it may have caused to those involved.
This incident is the latest in a string of complications surrounding the World Cup ticketing process, which has faced various criticisms. Just last week, the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey issued subpoenas to FIFA regarding its ticketing practices, particularly due to concerns raised about the seating arrangements for fans during the tournament.
The World Cup, featuring 48 teams, is set to take place from June 11th to July 19th, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. As the countdown to the tournament continues, additional scrutiny surrounding ticketing and fan experience is likely to remain a key topic in discussions leading up to the event.
