Atalanta and Raffaele Palladino End Their Collaboration as Maurizio Sarri Emerges as Front-Runner for Head Coach Position
Atalanta has officially announced the departure of coach Raffaele Palladino following a short tenure at the helm. The Serie A club confirmed on Tuesday that Palladino’s time with the team has come to an end after managing 39 matches.
The 42-year-old coach leaves after guiding the Bergamo-based team to a respectable seventh-place finish in the previous season, although the campaign began with significant challenges for the squad. Palladino was appointed in November to replace Ivan Juric, stepping in during a period when Atalanta was struggling at the lower end of the league standings.
While under Palladino’s leadership, Atalanta exhibited some stabilization in their results, they fell short of reaching the heights achieved during the era of former manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Notably, the team’s campaign in the UEFA Champions League ended in disappointment as they faced a staggering aggregate defeat of 10-2 against Bayern Munich in the Round of 16.
In light of Palladino’s exit, Italian media have reported that Maurizio Sarri, who recently concluded his contract with Lazio by mutual agreement, is the leading candidate to take over the managerial duties at Atalanta. The 67-year-old former coach of Lazio, Juventus, and Chelsea has garnered substantial interest and could bring a wealth of experience to the role.
