Former NBA MVP James Harden Arrested on Misdemeanor Gun Charge in Houston
James Harden, the former NBA Most Valuable Player and current guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was apprehended on a misdemeanor charge related to the unlawful carrying of a firearm. The incident occurred on Saturday in Houston, Texas, where court documents reveal that Harden was taken into custody around 3:41 a.m. after an unconcealed handgun was discovered in his Mercedes.
According to the records from Harris County, Harden acknowledged ownership of the weapon, leading to his arrest. He was subsequently booked into jail and later released on a $100 bond. Authorities stated that the gun was not holstered and was clearly visible within the vehicle.
The 37-year-old athlete is scheduled to appear in court on June 22, and as a condition of his bond, he is prohibited from possessing any firearms, ammunition, or similar items during the ongoing proceedings.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have yet to make any public comments concerning Harden’s arrest. The veteran guard was acquired by the team during the trade deadline in February, bolstering their roster.
During the 2025-2026 regular season, Harden demonstrated commendable performance, averaging 19.2 points along with 5.5 assists throughout the playoffs.
