‘DARK HORSE’ FRITZ SOARS PAST FELLOW AMERICAN KYPSON TO REACH WIMBLEDON THIRD ROUND
In a decisive display at Wimbledon, Taylor Fritz, last year’s semi-finalist, showcased his prowess by defeating fellow American Patrick Kypson in straight sets, securing a comfortable victory of 6-2, 6-2, 7-5. This win propels Fritz into the third round, where he remains a contender for his first Grand Slam title.
Having recorded his best result at the All England Club just twelve months ago, Fritz, seeded sixth, followed up his previous match—where he dispatched lucky loser Dusan Lajovic—by demonstrating exceptional skill and composure on the court. The stark difference in class was evident from the outset, as Fritz easily navigated through the opening two sets with minimal resistance from his opponent.
However, the tide turned slightly in the third set, where Kypson, ranked 113th in the world, offered more challenge. Fritz faced a momentary setback after dropping a six-deuce game, which allowed Kypson to level the score at 4-4. Despite this, Fritz showcased his competitive spirit, elevating his game in a pivotal moment during the 12th game to ultimately close out the match.
With this victory, Fritz now prepares for a matchup against either Canadian Gabriel Diallo or Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the next stage of the tournament. As a rising dark horse in this year’s Wimbledon, all eyes will be on Fritz as he aims to make a significant impact in the tournament.
