Kaizer Chiefs Confirm Second Signing of the Transfer Window
In an anticipated move, Kaizer Chiefs officially announced the acquisition of goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner on Monday. The 28-year-old shot-stopper, who became a free agent after parting ways with Sekhukhune United at the end of the previous season, is set to bolster the club’s goalkeeping lineup.
Despite having been part of the Bafana Bafana squad as recently as March, Leaner had an impressive run during the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, showcasing his skills and potential. The club’s statement expressed excitement over the signing, highlighting Leaner’s reputation as a seasoned player with considerable experience gained throughout his career.
“Kaizer Chiefs have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the signing of renowned shot-stopper Renaldo Leaner,” the club stated. “Born in Cape Town 28 years ago, Leaner arrives at Naturena with a wealth of experience, having impressed last season and earned a number of call-ups to the Bafana Bafana national team. We proudly welcome Renaldo to the Khosi Nation!”
Leaner is expected to compete for the starting position alongside fellow goalkeepers Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen, as the team progresses into the new season with ambitions for success. Meanwhile, the future of Rwandan international Fiacre Ntwari remains uncertain, even as he participates in the club’s pre-season preparations.
Renaldo Leaner’s signing marks the second addition to the Chiefs’ roster this transfer window, following the previous signing of defender Thabo Moloisane. Both players will serve under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz as the team aims to strengthen its overall performance this season.
