PELLEGRINO MATARAZZO EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH REAL SOCIEDAD AFTER CUP VICTORY
Real Sociedad has officially announced the extension of Pellegrino Matarazzo’s contract, which now runs until the conclusion of the 2027/28 season. This decision, made public on Tuesday, comes as a reward for Matarazzo’s significant achievement in leading the team to victory in the Copa del Rey shortly after taking charge.
This momentous win marked a historic milestone, as Matarazzo, who joined the Basque club in December, became the first American coach to secure a major trophy in one of Europe’s top five leagues. The victory not only embellished Sociedad’s trophy cabinet but also guaranteed them a spot in the upcoming Europa League.
At the time of his appointment, Matarazzo took over a team that was precariously positioned near the relegation zone of La Liga. Under his guidance, the club experienced a remarkable turnaround, finishing the season in 10th place with a total of 46 points.
