Jonas Vingegaard Withdraws from Tour de France Following Crash During Stage 15
In a shocking turn of events, two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard has been forced to abandon the prestigious cycling race after a serious crash occurred during stage 15. This unfortunate incident took place on a challenging 183.9-kilometre course stretching from Champagnole to the demanding summit finish at Plateau de Solaison.
The reigning Giro d’Italia champion experienced a hard fall approximately 22 kilometres away from the finish line. The crash happened during the descent of the Cote du Mont, where the road narrowed at a roundabout. Despite the narrow conditions, Vingegaard lost control, resulting in a slide that led to a collision with his teammate Sepp Kuss from the Visma Lease-a-bike team. Other competitors, including Isaac del Toro and Jai Hindley, were also involved in the incident and fell at the same corner.
While his fellow cyclists quickly recovered and resumed their ride, Vingegaard lay on the ground until the Tour’s medical team arrived to provide assistance. He was subsequently transported out of the race with his arm in a sling, a clear indication of the severity of his injuries.
Prior to the crash, Vingegaard was performing well in the competition, holding second place in the overall classification and trailing race leader Tadej Pogacar by four minutes and 30 seconds. His performance the day before was promising, as he finished fourth in stage 14, closely following Pogacar, del Toro, and Paul Seixas.
