Liverpool Defender Joe Gomez Expected to Miss Start of Premier League Season Due to Injury

Joe Gomez, the Liverpool defender, is likely to be sidelined at the beginning of the Premier League season following a muscle injury sustained during a pre-season match against Sunderland. This information was revealed by head coach Andoni Iraola on Thursday.

Gomez, aged 29, had to be substituted within the first ten minutes of Liverpool’s recent victory in Nashville. “Joe has a muscle injury. It was quite clear from the onset as he expressed discomfort straight away. The recovery timeline will depend on his progress, but it looks like it will be several weeks before he returns,” Iraola informed the press.

While the coach emphasized that the injury is not severe and qualifies as a typical muscle issue, he also expressed doubts about Gomez’s availability for the start of the season, which is just around the corner.

The injury presents a significant challenge for Liverpool as they finalize their preparations for the upcoming campaign. The team, which finished fifth in the previous season, is set to kick off their Premier League journey against Newcastle United on August 23.
