Linda Noskova Dominates Clara Tauson in Cincinnati
In a gripping third-round match at the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, defending Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova showcased her strength and skill by overcoming Denmark’s Clara Tauson with a score of 6-7, 6-2. This clash, which took place late on a Monday night, brought an end to Tauson’s tournament run, marking another chapter in the young stars’ rivalry.
The opening set proved to be a fierce contest, lasting over an hour and ultimately decided by a tie-break. Despite Tauson, 23, putting up an impressive fight, the 21-year-old Noskova turned the tide decisively in the second set, claiming victory in just about half an hour.
This match marked the third encounter between the two players on the WTA Tour, with Tauson having triumphed in their previous two meetings earlier in 2025. Noskova’s recent performance has been stellar, highlighted by her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, which propelled her into the elite top ten of women’s tennis, currently occupying the eighth position globally.
In contrast, Tauson has found herself on a challenging path recently, slipping down the rankings to number 42 due to a series of injuries and inconsistent performances throughout the season. Earlier this spring, she revealed a struggle with two herniated discs, which have required her to withdraw from several tournaments and compete while enduring considerable pain.
With the US Open approaching at the end of August, Tauson’s current ranking makes it unlikely she’ll secure a top-32 seed, a setback for the ambitious Dane. However, she is set to participate in the upcoming WTA 500 event in Monterrey next week, using it as a vital warm-up ahead of the Grand Slam event.
