Newcastle United Secure Amar Dedic from Benfica on Five-Year Contract

Newcastle United has officially confirmed the acquisition of Bosnian left-back Amar Dedic from Portuguese club Benfica, marking a significant addition to their defensive lineup. This move comes shortly after the departure of right-back Kieran Trippier, thereby addressing an essential need in the squad. The announcement was made by the Premier League club on Tuesday, indicating that the contract would span five years.

Amar Dedic’s transfer is reported to be valued at €35.9 million (approximately $41.55 million), highlighting the faith Newcastle has in the 24-year-old player. Furthermore, Benfica has stated that the agreement includes a sell-on clause, a common practice intended to benefit the club financially should Dedic be transferred again in the future.

The young defender is no stranger to the Premier League environment, having previously collaborated with Newcastle’s newly appointed manager, Matthias Jaissle, during their time together at Red Bull Salzburg. Their partnership yielded success, culminating in a Bundesliga title in 2023. Dedic expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with Jaissle, noting, “Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me. We know each other well, he knows what I can bring on the pitch, and I’m really happy to be playing for him again.”

This summer, Dedic has also represented Bosnia and Herzegovina on the international stage, participating in the World Cup, where the team faced elimination in the round of 32 against co-hosts the United States.

As the new season approaches, Newcastle will kick off their campaign at home against Liverpool on August 23, with fans eagerly anticipating how Dedic will contribute to the team’s ambitions for the upcoming Premier League season.
