FIFA Imposes Suspensions and Fines Following World Cup Final Brawl

In a significant disciplinary action, FIFA has announced that Argentinian midfielder Leandro Paredes will face a 10-match suspension for his role in the altercations that erupted at the conclusion of the World Cup final, where Argentina was defeated by Spain. This ruling was made public on Friday.

Alongside Paredes, teammate Nahuel Molina has received a seven-match ban, with both players required to pay a hefty fine of $90,000 each. Furthermore, Thiago Almada has been sanctioned with a one-match suspension and a fine of $30,000, marking a stern response to the incidents that tarnished the prestigious event.

The repercussions extend beyond the players, as two members of the Argentinian staff, Roberto Ayala and Pablo Martin Paez Gavira, have also faced a ban, accompanied by a $30,000 fine each for their involvement in the fracas.

According to FIFA, the match suspensions will be enforced in subsequent matches for their respective national teams, in alignment with Article 69, paragraphs 2a and 3 of the Disciplinary Code.

Additionally, the Argentinian Football Federation has been fined a substantial $321,000 due to various violations, including a controversial banner regarding the Malvinas Islands. The infringements cite multiple articles of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, covering inappropriate behavior during matches, discriminatory actions by supporters, and failure to maintain order and security during events.

All affected parties retain the right to appeal these decisions, potentially leading to further developments surrounding this incident.
