LARGE GROUP OF AJAX FANS ENTERS HIGHWAY ON FOOT TO SUPPORT TEAM AHEAD OF KLASSIEKER

A substantial gathering of Ajax supporters took to the A4 highway near Hoofddorp in a show of solidarity with their team, which was en route to Rotterdam for the much-anticipated Klassieker derby against Feyenoord. The fans approached the Ajax team bus shortly after it departed from the Johan Cruyff ArenA, lighting flares and creating an atmosphere of fervent support.

This daring display on one of the country’s busiest highways resulted in a significant traffic jam, yet, fortunately, the bus managed to navigate the situation without any serious incidents. However, the rowdy behavior of the fans did lead to minor damage to the bus as another group of supporters banged on it during its departure, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the team.

In response to these alarming actions, Rijkswaterstaat, the Directorate-General within the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management in the Netherlands, issued a statement condemning the dangerous conduct of the supporters. They emphasized the risks not only to the fans themselves but also to other motorists on the road, labeling the behavior as “extremely dangerous.”

It’s noteworthy that since 2009, away fans have been prohibited from attending the Klassieker matches between Ajax and Feyenoord, an effort presumably made in part to mitigate such potentially hazardous incidents.
