World Number One Aryna Sabalenka Withdraws from Stuttgart Open Due to Injury

Aryna Sabalenka, the top-ranked female tennis player globally, has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Stuttgart Open scheduled for this month. The announcement came on Thursday, detailing that her exit from the tournament is due to an injury sustained shortly after her remarkable victory at the Miami Open in March.

Frustrating Record in Stuttgart

At 27 years of age, Sabalenka has had a notably impressive yet exasperating history at the Stuttgart Open, having reached the finals four times in the past five years but without ever clinching the title. Her attempts to secure a victory were thwarted by formidable opponents; she lost to Ash Barty in 2021, Iga Swiatek in both 2022 and 2023, and Jelena Ostapenko in 2025.

Efforts to Compete

In her statement shared via Instagram, the Belarusian player expressed disappointment over her injury, stating, “Unfortunately, I suffered an injury after Miami, and even though I tried everything to recover in time, I’m not ready to compete.” This statement highlights her commitment to the sport and her desire to perform despite the physical setback.

Recent Success at Miami Open

Prior to her injury, Sabalenka showcased an outstanding performance at the Miami Open, where she triumphed over local favorite Coco Gauff with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. This victory marked a significant milestone as she became only the fifth woman in history to achieve the prestigious ‘Sunshine Double,’ winning both the Indian Wells and Miami Open back-to-back.

Love for Stuttgart

Reflecting on her affection for the Stuttgart tournament, Sabalenka continued, “I always love coming back to Stuttgart. The atmosphere, the fans, and the support I feel there are so special to me. And of course, I was really hoping to have another chance,” signaling her keen anticipation for the clay season, which she has now been forced to postpone.

Upcoming Stuttgart Open Dates

The Stuttgart Open is set to commence on April 13th, and while fans will miss seeing Sabalenka compete this year, her resilience and dedication indicate a hopeful return in future tournaments.
