Tragic news has emerged from Denmark as Ole Bjur, a prominent figure in Brondby IF’s history, has passed away at the age of 57 after a decade-long struggle with cancer. This heartfelt announcement was made by his elder brother, Jan Bjur, via a post on Facebook.
According to Jan Bjur, his brother fought bravely against cancer for ten years, facing immense challenges especially in the last year of his life, which was marked by considerable suffering. Jan’s emotional tribute noted, “It is very rare for me to post anything here, and this is the last thing I want to write, yet I feel a strong urge to share this with you. Last night, Ole—my dear younger brother—passed away after a ten-year battle with cancer. The past year, in particular, was a long, grueling struggle filled with far too much pain.”
Ole Bjur’s career at Brondby was remarkable, highlighted by a significant number of appearances in the iconic blue-and-yellow kit. Throughout his career, he represented Brondby in 284 matches and was instrumental in securing three Danish titles. His contributions extended beyond playing, as he also took on the role of sporting director for the club after hanging up his boots. More recently, he served as the head of sports at the Divisionsforeningen, which is the Danish League Association.
