CHELSEA SIGNS MAXENCE LACROIX FROM CRYSTAL PALACE FOR £52 MILLION
In a significant move in the football transfer market, Chelsea has finalized the acquisition of defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for a reported fee of £52 million. The 26-year-old French centre-back will be donning the Chelsea jersey following a six-year contract that commits him to the club until 2032.
Lacroix expressed his enthusiasm about joining Chelsea, stating, “I am really happy to be part of this beautiful club. Everyone knows the legend of Chelsea, its tradition of winning, and to be a part of that is a proud moment.” He emphasized the alignment of his own ambitions with those of the club as he discussed his vision with the manager, highlighting their shared desire to chase victories and trophies. During the previous season, Lacroix was integral to Crystal Palace’s squad, clocking in 55 appearances in various competitions. His contributions were pivotal in helping the team secure their first-ever European trophy by winning the Conference League and also in clinching the Community Shield against Liverpool.
Furthermore, Lacroix’s talent was recognized on the international stage, earning him a spot in France’s World Cup squad, where he played three matches, including a starting position against England in the third-place playoff match.
The defender made the switch to Crystal Palace in August 2024 after being signed from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg. Over the course of two seasons with the Eagles, Lacroix made a total of 98 appearances, showcasing his skills and establishing himself as a key player in the team.
