CHELSEA FACES SUSPENDED TRANSFER BAN AND HEFTY FINE DUE TO HISTORICAL RULE VIOLATIONS
Chelsea Football Club has found itself in hot water as the Premier League imposes a significant penalty for historical breaches of conduct. The club has been fined £10.75 million and additionally faces a one-window suspended transfer ban, as per the league’s announcement.
The Premier League has elaborated that these sanctions are the result of two distinct disciplinary investigations, initiated by Chelsea’s own admission of potential past rule violations. “Following the voluntary self-reporting by Chelsea Football Club, the Premier League has successfully concluded both inquiries,” stated the league in an official press release.
According to the league’s findings, Chelsea has committed several infractions mainly concerning financial reporting, engagement with third-party investment, and the development of youth players. Consequently, the club has consented to a cumulative fine amounting to £10.75 million. This penalty stems from breaches related to Premier League regulations that went unreported between 2011 and 2018 — a period marked by Roman Abramovich’s ownership.
Furthermore, the Premier League has handed down specific sanctions, which include an immediate nine-month transfer ban for the club’s academy and a one-year transfer ban for first-team players, although the latter is suspended for a duration of two years.
During the time frame in question, it was determined that Chelsea had engaged in undisclosed payments to third parties, which the Premier League noted as having provided an advantage to the club over its competitors.
