Christensen, Stage, and Gronbaek Rejoin Danish National Team for June Friendlies
After a notable absence, Andreas Christensen, Jens Stage, and Albert Gronbaek have been recalled to the Danish national team by head coach Brian Riemer for the upcoming friendly matches set to take place in June. The announcement was made by the Danish Football Association (DBU), emphasizing the significance of this selection as it marks a return for these players who have been away from the national squad for an extended period.
FC Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen, who has recently made a comeback to the matchday squad following a long-term injury, is now poised to contribute to his national side once again. Despite not having secured playing time in recent club matches, his inclusion signifies the coaching staff’s confidence in his abilities.
The squad also features established players such as Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rasmus Hojlund, and Morten Hjulmand, ensuring a blend of experience and talent as Denmark seeks to prepare effectively for future competitions.
Notably, Riemer has included Jacob Trenskow, a 25-year-old player from Heerenveen, who has had a remarkable season in the Dutch league, netting 13 goals and providing four assists in 34 league appearances, contributing to Heerenveen’s respectable eighth-place finish. This selection reinforces the team’s strategy of integrating emerging talents alongside seasoned veterans.
Returning to the fold is Jens Stage from Werder Bremen, who missed earlier friendlies against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic earlier this year. Additionally, Albert Gronbaek, who concluded his season on a high note during his loan spell at HSV, has also been selected to represent the national team.
It’s worth mentioning that Christian Norgaard has opted for retirement from the national setup, stepping aside from international duties as the team looks to refresh its roster.
Another noteworthy inclusion is Patrick Dorgu, who faced a lengthy recovery from injury before making his return to the field with Manchester United on May 3. His comeback adds depth and versatility to the lineup as Denmark aims to reestablish itself after a disappointing failing to qualify for the World Cup this summer.
The Danish national team is scheduled to face the Democratic Republic of Congo in Belgium on June 3, followed by a home game against Ukraine at Odense Stadium on June 7. These matches will serve as crucial preparatory encounters in anticipation of future competitive endeavors.
