Corinthians’ Allan Receives Red Card for Obscene Gesture in Match Against Fluminense
In a Brazilian Serie A match, Corinthians midfielder Allan Rodrigues de Souza found himself in hot water after he was sent off for making an inappropriate gesture towards an opposing player. The incident unfolded during a clash between Corinthians and Fluminense, where the video assistant referee (VAR) stepped in to point out Allan’s misconduct, which went unnoticed by the on-field referee at first.
Allan, who previously signed with Liverpool in 2015 but did not play a competitive match for the English club owing to work permit issues, had already been cautioned earlier in the second half for a disagreement with Fluminense’s Luciano Acosta. Following this, as the referee turned his back, the 29-year-old made a crude gesture towards Kevin Serna, a forward for Fluminense.
Upon being alerted by the VAR regarding Allan’s actions, the referee approached the pitchside monitor to review the footage of the incident. After assessing the replay, he decided to issue a red card to Allan, sending him off the field.
The match concluded with Fluminense claiming a 3-1 victory over Corinthians, which currently sits in 11th place in the league standings. Fluminense’s win allowed them to maintain pace with the league leaders, Palmeiras, who are level on points.
