CRYSTAL PALACE ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF PIERRE SAGE AS NEW MANAGER
Crystal Palace has officially confirmed the hiring of Pierre Sage, previously the manager of Lens, as their new head coach. The new agreement is set for three years, with an option to extend for an additional year.
The appointment comes after Oliver Glasner’s announcement of his departure from the club earlier this year in January. Glasner left a lasting impact at Palace, having secured the club’s first-ever trophies including the FA Cup, Community Shield, and UEFA Conference League, which endeared him to fans in South London.
Pierre Sage steps into the role as a proven winner, having recently led Lens to their inaugural Coupe de France and a noteworthy second-place finish in Ligue 1. Under his management, Lens displayed formidable performance, achieving 27 wins, 5 draws, and 8 losses in his 40 matches at the helm.
Sage is set to officially take charge as the manager of Crystal Palace on July 1st, coinciding with the club’s exciting new venture into Europa League competition.
Before his tenure at Lens, Sage began his managerial career back in 2013 with an amateur club, Chambery. However, he took a ten-year hiatus from management before returning to coaching with Lyon in 2023. Initially serving as an interim manager, he was promoted to permanent status in January 2024 but was dismissed just over a year later following disappointing results.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new challenge, Sage remarked, “It’s amazing to be here at Crystal Palace. I am excited by the history of the club and by recent seasons. Oliver Glasner achieved some amazing things, and now I have to do the same. That’s why we come here with a lot of ambition.” He continued, emphasizing the positive momentum within the team, “We want to give our best every day for the team, for the club, for the people, and especially for the fans, because when you love a club in England, it’s for all your life.” Sage’s commitment to the fans was clear: “We want to give the fans what they want. We want to make them smile, to be proud of the team, and to be proud of the club.”
