Denmark To Face World Cup Participant in June Friendly Matches
The Danish men’s national football team is set to engage in two friendlies this June, one of which will feature the African World Cup participant DR Congo. This encounter is scheduled to take place on June 3, while Ukraine will come to Odense four days later.
The Danish Football Association (DBU) announced these matchups on its official website. The game against DR Congo will be held in Liège, Belgium, while the clash with Ukraine is expected to take center stage in Odense. This initiative stems from a desire to prepare the team for upcoming competitions.
Brian Riemer, the head coach, expressed the importance of these matches in fostering team unity and preparing strategically for both the Nations League and the 2028 European Championships, especially following a significant generational transition within the squad. Riemer emphasized that playing against strong opponents like DR Congo and Ukraine is crucial for the team’s development.
It is noted that Denmark did not qualify for this summer’s World Cup tournament, which will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, further highlighting the necessity for the team to gain valuable experience and performance cohesion during these friendlies.
