Duplantis Cleared to Compete in European Championships Following Injury Scare
Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis, the Swedish pole vault sensation, has received the green light to participate in the upcoming European Championships next month after his recent withdrawal from the London Diamond League due to a left thigh injury. This information was confirmed by his agent on Wednesday, July 22nd.
The 26-year-old Duplantis made the decision to pull out of the Diamond League event after successfully clearing a height of 5.95 meters, only to experience discomfort that raised concerns about his fitness. However, following a comprehensive medical evaluation consisting of an MRI and X-ray, his agent Daniel Wessfeldt assured that there were “no signs of injury.” He emphasized that with appropriate treatment and light training, Duplantis is expected to be in peak condition within a week and a half.
Duplantis’s competitive schedule remains intact, with the European Championships set to take place from August 10th to 16th in Birmingham, England. The athlete, who has previously triumphed in outdoor European competitions three times, is poised to aim for gold once more.
As a remarkable athlete, Duplantis has broken the pole vault world record 15 times, starting with a height of 6.17 meters in 2020, and his latest achievement was set at 6.31 meters during a competition in Sweden back in March.
