Former Chelsea Striker Michy Batshuayi Joins Saudi Team Abha on Free Transfer

Michy Batshuayi, a seasoned striker previously associated with Chelsea and the Belgian national team, has made a notable career shift by signing with the Saudi Pro League club Abha on a free transfer. This announcement, made on Monday, follows his departure from the Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, where he had a stint marked by various achievements.

The 32-year-old forward transitioned to Eintracht Frankfurt from the Turkish champions Galatasaray in February 2025, managing to net four goals across 21 appearances in all competitions for the German side. His time in Frankfurt was characterized by effort, yet it became clear that a fresh start was needed.

Upon signing with Abha, the club celebrated the acquisition on social media, sharing images from the signing ceremony with a statement indicating their belief in Batshuayi’s potential: “One chance is all he needs… Michy Batshuayi is Abhawi.”

Batshuayi’s career has seen him play for several prominent clubs including Standard Liege, Olympique de Marseille, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Galatasaray. His diverse experiences across different leagues have shaped him into a versatile player, capable of adapting to various footballing styles.

The striker is also recognized for his contributions to the Belgian national team, being a part of the squad that clinched third place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and participating in the 2022 tournament held in Qatar. His international experience adds considerable value to his profile as he embarks on this new chapter with Abha.

As Abha prepares for their return to the top flight, having faced a setback with a 2-1 defeat against Al Hazem last week, the integration of Batshuayi could prove pivotal in their pursuit of success in the Saudi Pro League.
