Idrissa Gueye Joins Saudi Club Diriyah
Idrissa Gueye, the former Everton midfielder and Senegal international, has made a significant move to the Saudi Pro League, joining the recently promoted team Diriyah as a free agent. This transfer was confirmed by the Saudi club on a Sunday announcement, highlighting Gueye’s value to their squad.
“Idrissa is one of ours. His experience is an asset,” stated Diriyah in a post on social media, though further details regarding the contract were not disclosed.
According to local sources, Gueye has signed a one-year contract, which includes the option for an additional season. The 36-year-old player departed Everton in July after dedicating seven seasons to the club, which included two separate stints, as well as a notable three-year period at Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 in between.
Gueye, who has amassed over 130 caps for Senegal, played a pivotal role in the national team’s triumphant campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021. His extensive experience on the international stage is expected to bolster the Diriyah squad considerably.
In addition to Gueye’s signing, Diriyah has also secured other prominent players, including Chancel Mbemba, the captain of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nikola Vasilj, a goalkeeper from Bosnia & Herzegovina, indicating their ambition to strengthen the team for the upcoming season.
