Jonjo Shelvey Transitioning from Player to Manager with Arabian Falcons
In a significant career shift, Jonjo Shelvey, the former midfielder for Liverpool, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. Following this decision, he has taken up the managerial role at Arabian Falcons FC, a club competing in the third tier of the United Arab Emirates football league.
During his playing career, Shelvey represented several prominent Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Swansea City, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest. His international experience is marked by six appearances for the England national team. Shelvey’s latest club was Burnley, from where he joined Arabian Falcons in September of the previous year, making eight appearances in the ongoing 2025-26 season.
Expressing his aspirations, Shelvey stated, “My ambition is to climb to the very top of management, and this is the perfect project to prove myself and what I’m capable of.” His move into management reflects a determination to establish his credentials in a new capacity, signaling his intent to leave a successful mark off the pitch, similar to his achievements on it.
