Füchse Berlin Reclaims Missing Bundesliga Championship Trophy
The unexpected return of the Bundesliga championship trophy has sparked a wave of excitement among the Füchse Berlin handball team, who discovered the trophy hidden in their own headquarters’ basement. This remarkable development occurred after the trophy had been reported missing since November 2025.
Managing Director Bob Hanning expressed his astonishment at the trophy’s return, stating, “To be honest, I still can’t quite believe it myself, but the trophy is back. We can all be happy that this tradition lives on and that the teams who have won it, and those who will win it in the future, can once again hold it in their hands.” Initially, there was a belief that the trophy had been stolen and melted down by burglars.
Last November, the club’s headquarters were broken into, with the thieves making off with both money and the prized trophy. Following the incident, Füchse Berlin filed a police report, resulting in the arrest of two suspects in mid-January. However, the narrative took a surprising turn with the trophy’s unexpected reappearance.
A recent statement from the club detailed the discovery, indicating that the thieves had ingeniously concealed the trophy within the basement rooms of the headquarters, presumably with the intention of retrieving it later. Nevertheless, the attention the case garnered likely thwarted their plans.
The Füchse Berlin club, which features the renowned Mathias Gidsel, a three-time World Handball Player of the Year, celebrated their first Bundesliga championship victory in the summer of 2025. This incident not only highlights the drama surrounding the trophy’s disappearance but also reinforces the significance of tradition within the sport.
