Wesley Exits Brazil’s World Cup Squad Due to Injury; Ederson Called Up
The Brazilian Football Confederation recently made an announcement regarding a significant change in their World Cup roster. Wesley, the right-back, has been released from the squad due to an injury he sustained during the match against Egypt. Following an assessment by the medical team, further tests conducted on Sunday revealed that he has an adductor muscle injury in his left thigh, which unfortunately rules him out of participation in the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
In light of Wesley’s departure, Ederson, a midfielder currently playing for Atalanta, has been summoned to take his place. With an impressive track record, Ederson has spent the last season making notable contributions to his club, finishing with three assists and three goals across 41 matches. At just 26 years of age, he has become a key player in Serie A and is presently being linked with a potential transfer to Manchester United this summer.
Ederson is set to travel to the United States on Monday, where he will integrate into the Brazilian team. Brazil is preparing to commence their World Cup campaign, set to kick off on Saturday, June 13th, with a match against Morocco. They have been placed in Group C, which also includes Haiti and Scotland as their other opponents in the group stage.
The loss of Wesley is significant for the Brazilian squad, but the addition of Ederson brings a fresh dynamic to the team as they look to secure their position in the tournament.
