LIONS TE SAM LAPORTA CLEARED FOR TRAINING CAMP AFTER HERNIATED DISC PROCEDURE
Sam LaPorta, the starting tight end for the Detroit Lions, has received medical clearance to participate in the upcoming training camp after successfully undergoing a microdiscectomy which addressed a herniated disc. The procedure was performed last year, leading to his absence in the remaining eight games of the season. During the 2025 season, LaPorta managed to accumulate a total of 489 yards and scored three touchdowns.
The Lions are set to kick off their training camp on August 2nd, and LaPorta’s return is eagerly anticipated by both fans and teammates. Notably, he was selected as the 34th overall pick in the NFL Draft of 2023, where he quickly made a name for himself during his rookie season. He delivered an impressive performance with 889 yards and 10 touchdowns across 17 games, of which he started 14, earning him the honor of Second Team All-Pro.
In the following year, 2024, LaPorta’s performance slightly declined, yet he still managed to secure 726 yards and seven touchdowns, showcasing his undeniable talent on the field. As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, LaPorta is poised to earn $5.6 million this upcoming season, a figure that underscores his value to the team and the league.
