Malen Scores Hat-Trick in Roma’s Dominant Victory Over Fiorentina
Donyell Malen stole the spotlight as he netted a hat-trick, leading AS Roma to a commanding 4-0 victory against Fiorentina in their opening match of the Serie A season. This triumph marked Roma’s sixth consecutive win in the league, establishing them as a formidable force right from the start.
Building on their performance from the previous season, where they remained unbeaten at home for 12 matches at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma showcased their dominance. Paulo Dybala, a key figure on the pitch, assisted all three of Malen’s goals, initiating the scoring within minutes with a well-placed shot.
Fiorentina, however, attempted to respond with Marco Brescianini testing Roma’s goalkeeper Mile Svilar early on. Despite some efforts, the bulk of the action unfolded in Fiorentina’s half, where Roma’s relentless attack forced David de Gea to pull off an impressive save to deny Rodrigo Mora’s curling strike.
The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Dybala penetrated the left side of the defense before feeding Malen, who deftly turned past Dodo and slotted the ball into the net. This early goal revived memories for Fiorentina fans of a challenging previous season that began with a 15-match winless stretch, leaving them deflated as the first half wound down.
Malen’s second goal arrived shortly after halftime, just over five minutes into the second half. A long ball from Mario Hermoso enabled Dybala to assist Malen, who shifted the ball onto his left foot and fired it into the roof of the net from close range, leaving De Gea no chance.
It soon became clear that the match ball was destined for Malen as he paired up again with Dybala, who maneuvered to the byline before passing it back for Malen to complete his treble with a simple tap-in.
Roma was also eager to maintain their defensive strength, eyeing a record 12th home clean sheet in the league. They went on to score a fourth goal late in the game, with Matias Soule’s pass finding Niccolo Pisilli, who skillfully maneuvered the ball before prodding it past De Gea to conclude the match.
The combination of Roma’s solid defense, dynamic offense, and strategic tactics under Gian Piero Gasperini instills hope among the Giallorossi supporters for a remarkable season ahead. In contrast, there are growing concerns for Fiorentina as Paolo Vanoli’s dismissal in favor of Fabio Grosso last season might prove to be a costly gamble for the team.
Man of the Match honors went to Donyell Malen, further cementing his status as a key player for Roma.
