GHANA’S MARVIN SENAYA RULED OUT FOR EIGHT WEEKS AFTER HAMSTRING SURGERY
Marvin Senaya, the 23-year-old defender for the Black Stars of Ghana, faces a significant setback as he has been ruled out for at least the next eight weeks following a serious hamstring injury. This injury occurred during Ghana’s Round-of-32 clash against Colombia in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, which concluded in a disappointing 1-0 defeat for the Ghanaian team.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Senaya underwent successful surgery after the injury was confirmed. The unfortunate incident took place within the first ten minutes of the match held at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on July 3rd, prompting immediate medical evaluations.
The MRI scan conducted shortly after the match determined that Senaya suffered a significant hamstring tear, leading the medical team to initiate immediate injury management procedures. Following his initial treatment in Kansas City, Senaya was transferred to Paris, where he received proper surgical care. Upon completion of the surgery, he returned to his club, Auxerre, to begin his rehabilitation process.
The GFA ensured that there is a collaborative effort with AJ Auxerre to facilitate a smooth recovery for Senaya. They stated, “Marvin is expected to be out for at least eight weeks.” This absence is expected to hinder his participation in club games for Auxerre as well as Ghana’s opening qualifier for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations against Ivory Coast scheduled for that same month.
Senaya had been a vital component of Ghana’s squad, featuring in all four matches before the team’s exit from the tournament. The GFA, along with the Black Stars’ management and players, have extended their wishes for a speedy recovery, expressing their hopes for his return as he plays a crucial role in the team.
