Matildas Schedule Two Friendly Matches Against Mexico

The Australian women’s national football team, known as the Matildas, is set to face Mexico in two friendly matches this upcoming June. This marks their first appearance following the Women’s Asian Cup where they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Japan in the final. Despite the setback, the Matildas have successfully secured qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, slated to take place in Brazil.

Upcoming Matches in Australia

The two friendly matches will occur at two significant venues: Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium and Sydney’s Commbank Stadium. These matches are scheduled for June 6 and June 9, respectively, taking advantage of the June international window. The Matildas will be looking to bounce back from their Asian Cup experience and sharpen their skills ahead of the World Cup.

Mexico’s Road to Qualification

Mexico, currently ranked 27th in women’s football, will also be preparing for their participation in the 2027 World Cup by competing in the CONCACAF W Championship scheduled for November-December. They will be vying for a position alongside Haiti, who is ranked 49th, as they aim to qualify for the World Cup after missing out on the previous two tournaments in 2023 and 2019.

Favourable Odds for the Matildas

The Matildas are considered strong favorites for both upcoming fixtures, bolstered by their home advantage, superior FIFA ranking, and a historical head-to-head record that stands at nine wins from ten encounters against Mexico. The last match saw Australia secure a 2-0 victory over Mexico in a friendly played in San Antonio back in April 2024.

Fan Engagement and Broadcast Information

Tickets for the friendly matches will go on sale next week, and both games will be broadcasted live on Paramount+. Fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to support the Matildas as they prepare for their quest in the World Cup.
