AS Monaco Parts Ways with Manager Sebastien Pocognoli After Disappointing Season
In a significant move within the French football landscape, AS Monaco has announced the termination of manager Sebastien Pocognoli’s contract following a lackluster performance that saw the team finish seventh in Ligue 1, thereby missing out on the prestigious UEFA Champions League qualification. Pocognoli, a former Belgium international, joined the club in October from Union Saint-Gilloise to replace Adi Hutter, whose departure marked a turning point for the club.
The club released an official statement on Monday confirming the end of Pocognoli’s tenure, noting, “AS Monaco announces the end of its collaboration with Sebastien Pocognoli at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season.” They expressed gratitude for Pocognoli and his staff’s dedication, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
When Pocognoli took over, Monaco stood fifth in the league table, and he managed to guide the team through a commendable ten-game unbeaten streak. However, this momentum was not enough to secure a Champions League spot, ultimately resulting in a disappointing seventh-place finish.
Additionally, under Pocognoli’s leadership, Monaco reached the knockout phase of the Champions League, where they faced a formidable challenge against Paris Saint-Germain, the eventual winners of the tournament. This marked a bittersweet end to his brief but eventful term at the club.
