MURPHY FIGHTS BACK TO EQUALIZE SEMI-FINAL WITH HIGGINS AT WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP
In a gripping semi-final match at the World Snooker Championship, Shaun Murphy and John Higgins showcased their skills, with the score tied at 8-8 after a dramatic second session. The match took place at the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, setting the stage for an intense battle between two snooker titans.
The day resumed with the players at a stalemate of 4-4 following an initial session of competitive exchanges. Higgins, a four-time world champion celebrating his 51st birthday on May 18th, started strong by winning the first frame of the day with a commendable break of 72 points.
Not one to be deterred, Murphy responded promptly, making a break of 88 to level the match at 6-6 after claiming two of the next three frames. However, a misjudgment by Murphy in the following frame enabled Higgins to capitalize with a contribution of 57 points.
Higgins then extended his lead with a break of 86, giving him a two-frame advantage. Nonetheless, Murphy managed to claw back into contention after winning a scrappy 15th frame, benefiting from Higgins’s failure to pot a difficult red ball using the rest.
As the match progresses, the tension mounts with both players equally determined. Their contest resumes at 20:00 CET on Friday, with another eight frames set to be played in this best-of-33-frame encounter.
In the other semi-final, China’s Wu Yize holds a commanding 6-2 lead over Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen as they head into the second session. The outcomes of these matches will determine which players advance to the prestigious final, with the stakes higher than ever in this thrilling championship.
