Nadine Visser Clinches Gold in 100m Hurdles at European Championships
Nadine Visser has made history by winning the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles final at the European Championships held in Birmingham, achieving a remarkable victory against Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska that was ultimately decided by a photo finish.
The 31-year-old Dutch athlete, who has previously earned two gold medals in the 60-meter hurdles at the European Indoor Championships in 2019 and 2021, had not previously secured a gold at the European Championships until now. This win marks a significant milestone in her illustrious career.
During the thrilling race, Visser and Skrzyszowska displayed exceptional competitiveness, remaining side by side as they approached the finish line. With just 30 meters to go, both athletes surged ahead of the rest of the field, creating an intense battle for first place. Ultimately, the race was so close that a photo finish was required to determine the outcome, with Visser clocking in at an impressive 12.668 seconds, just a hair’s breadth ahead of Skrzyszowska at 12.669 seconds.
This victory adds to the Netherlands’ total medal count at the ongoing European Championships, following another triumph from Jessica Schilder, who won gold in the women’s shot put final the previous day.
Visser’s outstanding performance not only highlights her personal achievements but also underscores the rising standard of competition in women’s athletics, further establishing her as a prominent figure in the sport.
