NBA Imposes $50,000 Fine on Naz Reid for Criticizing Referees
In a notable decision, the NBA has fined forward Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves a sum of $50,000 due to his public remarks questioning the integrity of game officials. This action was taken following a contentious moment during a recent home game against the Houston Rockets, which saw Reid’s team narrowly claim victory with a score of 110-108. The incident unfolded during an overtime period, just 47 seconds after the start.
Reid, 26, faced a technical foul and subsequent ejection after expressing his dissatisfaction with a charging foul called against him by referee Scott Foster on Rockets’ player Alperen Sengun. The Timberwolves challenged the call, but their request was denied after a video review. This outcome incited Reid to confront the referee, leading to his dismissal from the game.
Currently amidst his seventh season in the NBA, all with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Reid has made a name for himself as a valuable player. Notably, he earned the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 2024, reflecting his status as one of the top reserve players in the league.
As of now, the Timberwolves hold a record of 45 wins and 28 losses, positioning them fifth in the Western Conference standings, closely trailing the Denver Nuggets. Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets are not far behind, currently sitting sixth in the West, 1.5 games away from the Timberwolves.
