Novak Djokovic Set to Return at Cincinnati Masters After Three-Year Hiatus
Former world number one Novak Djokovic has officially announced his participation in the Cincinnati Masters next month, marking his return to competitive tennis for the first time in three years. This comeback comes in the wake of his semi-final exit at Wimbledon, where he faced the rising star Jannik Sinner.
The Cincinnati tournament, scheduled from August 13th to 23rd, will be a significant event for Djokovic as it represents his first matchup at this venue since he clinched the title there in 2023. In a message shared on the tournament’s social media platforms, Djokovic expressed his excitement, stating, “I am very happy to announce that I will be in Cincinnati this year, for the first time since 2023. That year I played one of the top three Masters 1000 finals of my career.”
As he prepares to compete against a formidable field, Djokovic, currently ranked fifth in the ATP rankings, will join other top contenders at the event, including reigning Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, world number two Alexander Zverev, and third-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz has been recovering from a wrist injury sustained earlier this year.
Following the Cincinnati Masters, Djokovic is set to compete at the US Open, which runs from August 30th to September 13th, where he will strive for his 25th major title, further solidifying his legacy in the sport.
