Paris Saint-Germain Reportedly Opens Talks for Ajax Standout Mika Godts
In a significant development in the world of football transfers, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is said to have initiated discussions with Ajax regarding the acquisition of young winger Mika Godts. The 21-year-old Belgian talent has emerged as one of the few bright spots for Ajax during a challenging season.
Last season, Godts demonstrated his potential by netting 17 goals and providing 13 assists across 34 Eredivisie matches. Ajax, unfortunately, faced a tough year, finishing fifth in the league with just 56 points — their lowest total since 1962 — and managed to qualify for the UEFA Conference League qualifiers through the Dutch playoff system.
According to renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the reigning UEFA Champions League champions, PSG, are keen on signing Godts. They view him not only as a primary target but also in conjunction with Monaco’s rising star, Maghnes Akliouche, who is also on the verge of joining the Parisians.
Ajax is reportedly aware of PSG’s interest and is poised to demand a substantial fee of around €60 million for Godts. Journalist Tim van Duijn from VI has highlighted that Godts recently met with PSG’s technical director, Luis Campos, in Porto, fuelling the speculation surrounding the transfer.
Godts has been on PSG’s radar for some time, but he isn’t the only club seeking his signature. The competition for the emerging Belgian international’s services is expected to be stiff.
In a recent interview with Ziggo Sport, Godts expressed that, at present, he sees no indicators of leaving Ajax. He emphasized the improvements within the club and his desire to secure titles with Ajax, reflecting a strong commitment to his current team. “I’m just here. Last season went really well for me. I’d be being very selfish if I were happy with that, because we finished fifth and we played in the play-offs,” he remarked.
Godts conveyed hope for a title contender campaign this season, citing the strengthening structure within Ajax and a competitive environment that supports their ambitions. His remarks underscore a loyalty to Ajax, as he stated, “Last season went really well for me, but that’s actually unacceptable. I’m hoping to be in contention for the title, and I feel that we can do it as a team.”
When asked about a possible transfer, Godts remained composed, noting, “We’ll have to see then. Nothing’s happening at the moment, and I’m really happy here at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.” Since joining Ajax from Belgian side Gent in January 2023, Godts made his professional debut in April of the same year and has since amassed 113 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 23 assists for the club.
