Rodri Lands in Barcelona for ‘Dream’ Transfer from Manchester City

Spain’s World Cup-winning captain, Rodri, arrived in Barcelona on Monday, signaling the official start of his new chapter with the La Liga champions as one of the most talked-about transfer sagas of the summer nears its end. Upon his arrival, the midfielder expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m very pleased to be here. The last few days have been intense, but I’m glad everything’s sorted. Of course, playing for Barcelona is a dream.”

At the press conference held at the airport, the 30-year-old conveyed his eagerness to reunite with his teammates, many of whom he has played alongside on the national team. “It’s time to get down to work and give it our all,” he remarked, highlighting his commitment to the club.

Rodri indicated that his goals at Barcelona include clinching the Champions League title, along with any other successes that may come their way. His journey to Barcelona was facilitated by an agreement between the Catalan club and Manchester City, reportedly amounting to around 75 million euros (approximately $87 million), according to sources from the local press.

A source within Barcelona declared to AFP on Sunday that the club anticipated making the official announcement regarding Rodri’s signing in the coming days. While Rodri’s past two seasons have been marred by injuries, he recently demonstrated his prowess on the field, playing a pivotal role in Spain’s second World Cup victory last month.

After a successful seven years at Manchester City, during which he amassed numerous titles, the former Atlético Madrid and Villarreal player had been close to transferring to Real Madrid before ultimately deciding to join their fierce rivals, Barcelona.
