Matlou’s journey in football began at the Bidvest Wits academy where he worked his way up before embarking on loan spells with lower-division clubs such as Cape Town All Stars and Cape Umoya United. Following his explorations in South Africa, he further expanded his horizons in Portugal, contributing two years at a lower-league club, Sanjoanense.
Return to South Africa and Kaizer Chiefs Tenure
Upon returning to South Africa, Matlou joined Moroka Swallows for the 2021/22 season. His career took a notable turn when he signed with Kaizer Chiefs, where he made a commendable 46 appearances and was part of the team that celebrated victory in the prestigious 2025 Nedbank Cup.
