Elina Svitolina Advances with Strong Performance at French Open

Elina Svitolina showcased her talents with a commanding victory in the second round of the French Open, demonstrating a marked improvement from her initial match. Competing against Spanish qualifier Kaitlin Quevedo, ranked 126th in the world, Svitolina triumphed in straight sets, sealing the match with a score of 6-0, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Having recently secured the Italian Open title, where she notably defeated top players like Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, Svitolina appeared poised and confident on the court. “It was a great match, I started very well in the first set,” she expressed following her win, pleased with her performance.

The Ukrainian seventh seed had experienced a tough first-round matchup against Hungary’s Anna Bondar, where she narrowly escaped by winning in a deciding-set tie-break. Following that match, she took a moment to support her husband, Gael Monfils, during his farewell match at the French Open.

This time, Svitolina wasted no time establishing her dominance against Quevedo. Although the Spanish athlete mounted a stronger challenge in the second set, a pivotal break in the ninth game facilitated Svitolina’s path to victory.

Next, Svitolina will face Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch, who reached the third round for the first time at the age of 31 after defeating the Chinese 32nd seed, Wang Xinyu. This progression signifies Svitolina’s resilience and her aspiration to clinch another Grand Slam title, following her impressive fourth career Slam semi-final appearance at the Australian Open earlier this year.
