TOTTENHAM’S VICARIO TO UNDERGO HERNIA SURGERY NEXT WEEK, SET FOR A MONTH ON SIDELINES

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is set to undergo hernia surgery next week, according to an announcement from Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur. This crucial procedure is expected to keep the 29-year-old Italian international off the pitch for approximately one month.

Throughout this season, Vicario has been a constant presence, participating in every league match for Tottenham, who currently find themselves just one point above the relegation zone. In light of the situation, Tottenham stated, “The minor procedure has been scheduled to minimize impact on our season as much as possible,” especially given that the team will enter a three-week international break following their league match this Sunday against Nottingham Forest.

Vicario’s absence from Italy’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying playoff against Northern Ireland adds to the stakes. His last appearance for the Italian national team was during a 2-0 victory over Moldova back in November. This performance occurred prior to Gianluigi Donnarumma taking over the goalkeeping duties in a subsequent match where Italy suffered a 4-1 defeat to Norway. This loss forced Italy into a playoff scenario while Norway secured a spot in the World Cup.

Tottenham expressed optimism regarding Vicario’s recovery, hoping that he will be fit to return to action within the next month, marking an important phase in the team’s ongoing Premier League campaign.
