TWO-TIME CHAMPION SWIATEK THUMPS MUCHOVA TO MOVE INTO INDIAN WELLS QUARTER-FINALS
In an impressive display, two-time champion Iga Swiatek surged into the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells tournament on Wednesday, decisively defeating the in-form Czech player Karolina Muchova with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
As the world number two, Swiatek has a storied history at this prestigious WTA 1000 event, having claimed the title in both 2022 and 2024. Her victory over Muchova halted the latter’s remarkable eight-match winning streak—this streak included winning her first title since 2019 at the Qatar Open just last month, underscoring the significance of Swiatek’s triumph.
Following the match, Swiatek shared her feelings in an on-court interview, expressing satisfaction with her performance. “I felt I was playing better and better, just great,” she stated, reflecting her confidence. “I love playing here, I love the conditions. I started to understand them a bit better a couple of years back, and since then it feels like I can really use my advantages here. It’s a great place to play tennis; hopefully, I can keep doing that until the end.”
Swiatek’s next challenge will be against either the ninth-seeded Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina or the 44th-ranked Czech Katerina Siniakova, who notably defeated defending champion Mirra Andreeva in the third round.
In other notable matches in the women’s draw, the reigning Australian Open champion, Elena Rybakina, will face the unseeded British player Sonay Kartal, while fifth-seeded American Jessica Pegula is set to take on seasoned Swiss player Belinda Bencic, who has managed to win all four of their previous encounters.
